Fez, Morocco.  2013.   The tanneries are notorious for their stench, since the lye used to set the dyes is derived from pigeon feces.  Every week there is a market where the leather shops barter and compete for the supply from the pigeon farmers.  The solution to the stench is to carry a bouquet of mint leaves underneath your nose.
